So I randomly decided to watch the new SyFy version of Being Human last night. It was a very odd experience. I can't even objectively say whether it was good or bad because I just felt so strange about the whole thing. Like, I knew the story and the characters but it was all taking place in some kind of alternate universe where Mitchell isn't Irish and that's unacceptable.

Though I was pretty amused by the posts I saw on tumblr regarding it. Spoilers for whatever episode aired last night (1x05 I think? And therefor the first season of the British series as well). This was the episode where it was revealed how Danny (Owen) killed Sally (Annie) by pushing her down the stairs because he's an abusive ass. And everyone on tumblr was like :O but I was like... yeah, I knew that. I actually think it would be interesting to watch this because they're going to have to spread the story out into the much longer episode count of American series and more Being Human is always a good thing. But, it's so distracting having different actors that I don't know if I would be able to do it. I just adore the other cast so much.

For good measure, have a pic of Aidan Turner. CLICK ME.

Speaking of other cast members, I watched a clip from the original pilot for the BBC series because I've seen a couple people on LJ and tumblr mention their preference for the original Mitchell. I gotta say, at least in the clip I saw, I was kinda creeped out by him? I'm sure a lot of this is that I've watched Aidan Turner in the role for 2 1/2 series, and usually whoever you know first is your preference (like with the US remake), but the character is a lot warmer than I think they originally wrote him. Annie is certainly a lot less testy.

One thing that amused me about the US version was that Bishop (the Herrick character) is played by Mark Pellegrino, who I only know from Lost where he played Jacob. So, when I see him onscreen being a vampire... I just see Jacob being a vampire. But, Jacob was always kind of a dick, so now he's just more upfront about it?

I'm not cutting this because it's hilarious and everyone should read it (courtesy of @nedroid)

I think I loved the finale.Spoilers for both the A2A and Lost finales )
Day 30 - Saddest character death

LOST

Um... let's go with season 6. That's nice and vague. If you know anything about Lost you know someone is going to die at some point during any given season. Episode details to follow the cut. Who is it this time? )

And with that, I'm done with the meme! :O WAY TO END IT ON A DOWNER!

Day 27 - Best pilot episode

LOST

Pilots are a tricky business as most shows are still feeling their way. They aren't fully developed concepts and the writers as well as the actors haven't become entirely comfortable with the world they're working in. Take my two favorite new shows from last season:

Community had a pretty decent pilot with plenty of laughs and gave a glimpse of what the show had to offer. I recently rewatched it and was kind of amazed by how much everyone has grown into their characters. Later episodes just have such an ease to them compared to the pilot. But a lot of the time, the best shows can hope for is a "pretty decent" first run.

Then there is The Vampire Diaries whose first couple of episodes were so full of stilted, overwrought dialogue and boring that I nearly gave up on it. Luckily, I hung on and was able to watch the show blossom. Some shows never blossom, or they have a great first episode and wither away. It's always a shame when a genuinely good show has such an iffy start. It's dangerous also, because networks seem to have such a short fuse.

Then there is the Lost pilot, which I honestly think stands miles ahead of every pilot I can think of. It was like watching a movie. There was this grand scale to everything: the set, the characters, the story. Then, of course, there was the monster.

Guys... where are we?

Day 26 - OMG WTF? Season finale

LOST - "Exodus: Parts 1 & 2" (Season One)

Comic courtesy of Lost In Comics

If it's one thing the writers at Lost knew how to do, it was season finales. You could always count on plenty of excitement and one heck of a cliffhanger. And this was the one that started it all.

Honorable mention goes to the season three finale "Through the Looking Glass"... Not Penny's Boat indeed.

Day 19 - Best TV show cast

LOST

There are no words. This entire case was pretty much incredible (and there were SO MANY of them) and responsible for holding the show together when it threatened to fall apart completely. Michale Emerson and Terry O'Quinn perhaps most of all. Even Matthew Fox, who I always remember as being very cute but failing spectacularly on Celebrity Jeopardy back in the Party of Five days (which I never watched), pulled out the big guns in the final season.

I only wish they had gotten more awards show recognition, because they all completely deserve it.

Day 09 - Best scene ever

LOST 4x05 - "The Constant"
The Phonecall

Lost has a long history of jerking its fans around, especially in regards to the island itself. What can never be denied, however, is how poignant this show could be. It's not often that I get emotionally invested in a show, but I did with Lost.

I have an awful memory when it comes to the specifics of shows I watch. Usually when I finish it, a while later all I really have is a feeling regarding the show, never memories of certain scenes. But there are a few moments during the run of Lost that have just stuck with me, and I think will forever. The strongest of these is the phone call between Desmond and Penny during the fourth season episode, "The Constant".

Desmond and Penny (along with Sun and Jin) were some of the people I most cared about on the show. I loved their story and I just wanted them to be happy after all of the crap they had been through.

At the beginning of the fourth season Desmond is suffering some time-travel related trauma. His consciousness is kind of ping-ponging around his own timeline. He keeps waking up at different points in his life and it's causing some severe brain trauma. He learns that he needs something to tie his consciousness down in both the past and present or it'll just go spinning off into nothing. That something, that constant, has to be a powerful object. It needs to be something he cares for deeply or it won't work. It has to be Penny.

We'd seen the progression of their relationship, from the first meet-cute to the inevitable break-up because of her father and Desmond's own insecurities. Desmond has been stuck on the island, in the hatch, for eight years. All the audience wants at this point is for these people to find each other again. And when they do it is completely beautiful.

So, it's over...Spoilers, obv )
So, basically, Lost is the worst interview ever for a pointless job that no one wants.

So I watched the 3rd episode of Sunao ni Narenakute and am still really enjoying it. But there was one thing that stood out to me:

When Nakaji's tattoo-sharing ladyfriend told Haru that she had met him in Bali, all I could think was "WELL THIS ISN'T GOING TO END WELL."

Thanks to Something Happened in Bali I know exactly what happens to couples that meet there, and it'a not as nice as you might think!

Plus, the actress who plays this woman was Miwa from A Million Stars and we all know how well that ended for everyone. GOOD TIMES.  :D

P.S. I AM STILL REALLY NOT OK WITH WHAT HAPPENED ON LOST.
Reaction to tonight's episode of Lost: OH SCREW YOU, LOST.

IRIS

Mar. 24th, 2010 09:43 am
I finished IRIS the day before yesterday...Cut for spoilers, doi ) Anyway, it definitely knocks Goong out of my top 10 kdramas (it was only there because I haven't really seen that many to completion).

So now I'm looking for something new to watch. I checked out the first episodes of HERO and Mukodono! and while they were both entertaining, neither clicked with me. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be watching Personal Taste and Prosecutor Princess in the upcoming kdrama season, so I'd like to watch something Japanese. Maybe I'll try Kekkon Dekinai Otoko? I don't know since I'm not really sure what I'm even in the mood for.

LOST: Poor Richard!

OK, so I'm pretty excited with THIS news that Kimura is going to star in an upcoming romantic drama. I'm on a serious romance kick recently so this was VERY well received. It also reminds me that I need to get back to working my way through his catalog of dramas. Though after Long Vacation I've cooled a little on the idea since it was kind of 'blah'. Anyway, YAY!

I've made it through ep 17 or 18 of Dal Ja's Spring. I honestly can't remember right now since I never really paid attention to begin with >_> . ANYWAY, it still continues to be cute and fun. Dal Ja and Tae Bong are fantastic as a couple. How can they be so precious?

HOWEVER, there have been some reactions on the part of the mothers that have kind of taken me out of the story. Both of the mothers find out that Dal Ja and Tae Bong have been living together... AND DON'T GET OUT OF BED FOR TWO DAYS. REALLY? That just seems like a smidge of an overreaction. I get being traditional, but did it truly shake your world THAT MUCH? I just couldn't buy it so I found that whole plot point tiresome and I'm hoping we'll soon move on. Get over it.

From the look of the previews, there is going to be some trouble in paradise and I am less than excited about it. Maybe I need to take a break from this drama. I've been going full steam and just want everyone to be HAPPY already, so the episode count has gotten to me. Maybe watching 40+ episodes of Smile, You has destroyed my tolerance for the length of kdramas at the moment?

LOST tonight. I'm fully prepared for some real answers and no more pointless Jack's alternate reality son storylines. We get it: EVERYONE HAS FATHER ISSUES.

Also, I'm sick of this dull headache plaguing my days... DX

LEVERAGE

Apr. 28th, 2009 11:36 am
So, I have found a new love and it's name is LEVERAGE.

Photobucket

We have thieves, snark, and cons. COME JOIN US. )
I went ahead and cancelled my AT&T service. They don't offer Uverse in my area so I figured I'd just switch to another provider where I could get tv and internet. Comcast, of course, isn't offered in my area so I was stuck with Brighthouse. It's more than I want to spend, so I may end up cancelling the cable at some point, but we shall see. I may enjoy getting AMC, TLC, and Sci-Fi (Syfy?) a little too much once I get my hands on them. It opens my world up to a ton of cable shows that I've stayed away from because I was too lazy to download. PLUS, waaaaaaaay faster internet.

Anyway, they are coming on Saturday morning to install everything. I'm looking forward to it. I get the shakes when I can't have my email open 24/7.

My neighbor came over yesterday. Turns out she only lived there about 8 days out of the month as she spends the majority of her time at her boyfriends house across town. At that point, why not just move in together and save yourself the rent and bills? I don't understand. But that works out nicely for me since it will be nice at quiet. I dig.

She seems very friendly, if a little hyperactive, which on a 29 year old was a little odd. But nice and excitable is better than creepy and sullen. So I think it's a win for the most part.

Turns out that my landlord just recently bought the place from some guy. I'm hoping that's why NONE of the electrical has been upgraded. Holly said she can't plug her blow dryer in the front room without blowing a fuse. My main issue is the lack of three-pronged outlets. I had to buy a bunch of converters from the hardware store just so I could plug my crap in. The outlets are old and loose, so, yay fire hazard.

Lost was a stupid recap episode last night, so I took the opportunity to NOT unpack and instead finish Love Shuffle. The magic definitely wore off for me with that show. It was a struggle to make it through the last half because honestly I didn't care. I truly enjoyed half the cast and thought the characters were interesting, but the plot felt very slapdash. I appreciated the funny moments, but any attempt at drama left me feeling very 'eh' about the whole thing. It felt like something integral was missing. It lacked heart which is too made because the cast was totally capable of making it awesome if they'd been given better material. But now it is off my plate, so yay!

Once I get my internet this weekend I'll be able to get the last three episodes of Tiger & Dragon (FAR SUPERIOR, OMG) and finish that.

Looks like Liar Game is getting a second season AND movie. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I enjoyed the series but thought the finale was incredibly dull. So I'm not sure how successful another stretch on the storyline will work. Can I put in a request for more focus on the Nao/Akiyama relationship? At least a GLIMPSE of something more? It would be a nice break from me trying to figure out all the puzzles.

...I need to cap the last episode of EoF.  I haven't forgotten, I promise!
