1. I hate printers. I have a daily sparring match with the one in my office. I think it forgets how to be a printer every night.

2. I hope all my fellow Americans had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday. I know I did, except for the getting stuck in Chicago traffic for three hours. But, I was hitting the city at rush hour Wednesday night, so I really only have myself to blame. My sister and I used our down time to make a list of all the different state license plates we saw (28 + Ontario) and attempted to find a decent radio station. We did, however, learn (to her horror) that there is such a thing as flying snakes.

Random story regarding my extended family. Apparently two of my uncles aren't speaking to each other after an event that occurred back during the summer. We had a cookout for my Grandparent's anniversary (and because my grandpa suffers from ever progressing dementia). The uncle who hosted the event has a dog, a pit bull, named Rufus, who is just a complete sweetheart. A second uncle asked if it would be OK to bring his dog, Walker, a labradoodle, a curly-haired, adorable, idiot, over. Uncle #1 OKed it, but said they would have to keep an eye on him. And they did. As long as Walker was on his leash, he and Rufus got along great. It was only when Walker was off his leash that he got a little over-excited. Note, we're talking about the labradoodle, not the pit bull here. But on a whole they got along pretty well.

Well, one of my cousins, daughter of Uncle #3, who is a complete princess, but I'm not going to get into that here, decided she'd go get her dog and bring him over. Her dog, Yogi, is a French Bulldog. So, quite a bit smaller than the other two. Well, the second she set him down, Yogi goes after Rufus. Rufus, understandably so, I think, bites Yogi. He drew blood, but Yogi is fine. My family had left by this point, so everything I know is second hand. But apparently there was much yelling and Uncle #3 blaming Uncle #1 aaaaand... now they aren't speaking.

This just supports my belief that we may graduate from high school, but we never leave it behind.

3. Saw Deathly Hallows and looooooooved it. I've only read the book once (when it first came out), so I feel a great desire to read it again now. Though, I think this may be the first time that I like a movie version better than the book. It may even unseat PoA as my favorite HP movie. The only downside is that it's so serious, it doesn't lend itself well to multiple viewings.

It's a beautiful film and I loved everything about it. I also cried like a freaking baby at Hedwig and Dobby's deaths, just like I did when reading the book. So, obviously afterwards I had to go watch this:

Go here for the better quality version (with captions!) that I couldn't embed.

4. Another year of NaNo fail. I was moving along pretty well for the first half of the month. Then I got occupied by other things and generally lost heart with the story. I need to do some more research so I can get more comfortable with my story. I should also probably decide on the rules for the universe I'm creating. :/

5. What is everyone watching right now?

My Can't Miss TV Schedule includes Community, The Vampire Diaries, and The Walking Dead. I'm going to attempt to pick up Jyuui Dolittle. Maybe I can get through the first episode this time? Secret Garden also looks promising. At some point I need to go ahead and watch the Liar Game and Nodame Cantabile movies. Crap! I need to watch Unubore Deka as well.

Better hurry up so I can include these in my year-end drama countdown!

so sleepy~

Oct. 28th, 2010 03:08 pm
I cut out caffeine this week and it's... not been pretty. Headaches all week long and I'm just dragging something fierce. I think I used up all my concentration on a conference call this morning. Now all I want to do is sleep. I have been sleeping better, so that's a plus, if not exactly a surprise. Although, I do think I'm going to allow myself some coffee for my six hour road trip Friday night. Good times await me on the other end, but I loathe long car trips, especially by myself. They're just so dull.

Craaaaaap. Oh Man-seok is joining the cast of What's Up. Now I'm going to have to watch it, when I really had no desire to before. Pick some projects I like, dammit! :( At least this one is a drama, I can't exactly hop over to Korea for some stage productions.

Finished Playful Kiss. Damn if they didn't take tying up loose ends super seriously. It kind of ended the way my happy-endings-for-everyone mind often wishes: Pair everyone off, make them super happy and successful... THE END! Lovely in theory, but in practice can be a little lacking. I actually thought that Joon-gu and the foreigner were pretty cute together, but it was crazy rushed... and Ju-ri's random haircut-addicted boyfriend was just weird. But I liked that Ha-ni finally felt strong ties to her career of choice beyond their relation to Seung-jo. Adorable drama overall. Watch it for some feel-good, cotton-candy fun. Just... don't think about it too much. Trust me.

Also! Halloween!

Mad Men

Oct. 19th, 2010 12:44 pm
Mad Men finale... let's talk, flist. I'm pretty sure I can't be the only one underwhelmed. This has been a stellar season for the most part, featuring possibly the strongest episode of the show's entire run (The Suitcase). We've seen Peggy become even stronger, Sally grow into a young woman, and Don actually think about his awful life and choices. And if it's one thing that Mad Men is known for, it's AWESOME finales. Last season was pretty subpar in my opinion (Don's affair with that obnoxious teacher really tried my patience), but the finale was a huge gamechanger. This one? Not so much.

I wasn't in love with Fay/Faye, but I did like her more than I've liked any of Don's previous girlfriends. So to say I was bummed about his random decision to propose to Megan is an understatement. I think Megan is a lovely girl, but this marriage can only end in heartbreak. I think Don loves the idea of her. She was great with his kids. And can I just say that I loved seeing Don play with his children? He actually looked genuinely happy. That and the scene between Joan and Peggy were the highlights of the episode for me. Don wants to make a family. I just wish more time had been spent building the relationship between those two. We got all this Faye/Don interaction for no real (romantic) payoff. We did get Don admitting to being Dick, so that was something... I guess.

Totally knew Joan didn't get rid of the baby. Also: why is her husband still alive? Hate him.

I think I might be done with The Event. It just can't hold my interest. I was watching it last night, but mostly my attention was on finishing Scandal in Spring, the 4th book in the The Wallflowers series by Lisa Kleypas. I enjoyed all four of the romance novels and definitely mean to check out more stuff by Kleypas. She's a very fun writer. But now I need something else to tide me over until I can get Catching Fire from the library. The hold list is so loooong :(

ETA: OMG. [livejournal.com profile] typicrobots just made my day. Check out Sassy Gay Friend: Mad Men.

And for good measure, my favorite Sassy Gay Friend video.

Runner up goes to the Othello one.
Day 18 - Favorite title sequence

THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR

This is the full version, so there is an extra verse. Embedding was disabled on all the short versions :/

There are lots of really interesting title sequences out there. Some of the current ones that come to mind are Mad Men and True Blood, both of which I think are really cool. The thing that's missing from those? THEME SONGS.

I love theme songs and I wish more shows had them. And this has to be one of the most memorable for my generation. Everyone knows the words to this, right?

Sometimes I catch reruns of Fresh Prince randomly and... it's a very nineties show. Though, the Carlton Dance is ALWAYS funny.

30 Days of Television )
Yeah, the Doctor Who finale was all kinds of wonderful. After a solid premiere I felt like this whole season waffled about with a few bright spots here and there. But this two-parter, and the second half in particular, were solid. It was fun, touching, romantic, and many other things (and I even kind of liked River Song who has only annoyed me since her introduction). Well played, show. I'm happy to say that I am honestly very much looking forward to the Christmas Special.

Plus, they played "You Give Me Something" by James Morrison (I won't say in which scene on account of spoilers) and I just love that song.

I took a week long vacation last week and given my lack of monetary funds, that meant keeping it simple and going home to visit family. I was also SUPER productive. I refinished the armoire that's been sitting in my parents garage for several months now. It's still sitting there, but it's ready to come back to my place whenever they come over (my car is too small to take it all in one trip).

But first, a video of our cat, Jack, and his love affair with my shoes.

Now on to the Armoire Project Picspam! )

I finished Atashinchi no Danshi this weekend, it was all pretty adorable. Not an outstanding series by any stretch, but definitely enjoyable. I'll probably finish Who Are You? next... especially since there was no new True Blood this week! FROWNY FACE.
The New Doctor Who Companion was announced

She's absolutely gorgeous, and while I remember the episode she was in I don't remember her or her acting skills. Hopefully she'll be good? Honestly I was hoping for someone a little more exciting since they've already done the pretty girl thing. Mix it up guys. Hopefully she'll be a fun character. I guess we'll see.

And while I'm talking about goings on from that side of the pond... have some more Father Ted clips, because I can't help myself: I hear you're a racist now, Father

This weekend is devoted to painting my living room. It's going to be Perennial Gold, which is hopefully the perfect shade of gold because I don't want to paint it twice. I get so anxious about colors, because I LOVE when people are bold with them. But I get so gun shy when it comes to doing it myself. I'll post pictures once it is done!

Also, I discovered there is no outlet in my bathroom (I don't blow dry my hair so I never looked before). That's bizarre.
It's been dead quiet at work this week, and then out of nowhere two events drop into my lap that I have to cover. Thanks for the heads up guys! Too bad I can't be in two places at once. OH, WORK.

I mowed my lawn yesterday - the second time since I moved in - and bent the blade. I'm such a freaking genius. I took the time to walk the entire yard and pick up the sticks that they two big ass tress drop and then run over a root anyway. To be fair, I was very careful around the roots I saw. This one sprung up on me out of nowhere. It is beheaded now, so it deserves it.

The mower started working really hard, but it finished the job. At least it doesn't look like a crazy person lives there that only manages to mow the back half of her lot. I went ahead and mowed in front of the other half of the house. When my housemate mowed two weeks ago she only did in front of her half, which I thought was pretty bogus. And it looked really stupid.

So, now I have to take the blade off and bring it in to the hardware store to see if they can match it. I'm just glad I didn't lose an eye or something. Mowers make me a little squeamish if I think about them too much.

The latest Ashes to Ashes (ep 6) was a little disappointing for me. I can't really put my finger on it, but it just wasn't as engaging as the last 5 have been. I did enjoy Alex's interactions with the family (trying to stay away from spoilers here for those that haven't seen it).

Jotei continues to bring the trashy hilarity. Ayaka was shot defending a yakuza boss and is now blackmailing a politician with incriminating photos. Meanwhile more women hate her with each passing episode. Quality television I tell you. QUALITY.

Random links!

Missing Link Fossil Found! <-- This is cool. Thanks go to Google for informing me of it's existence. At one point I had wanted to be an archeologist/paleontologist/fossil-finder person. Then I had an anatomy class and had to memorize the different parts of all the bones. ... I ended up in internet marketing. So, I guess I took another direction.

Scrubs to return next season - WTF? Bad idea. I wasn't looking forward to this recent season, but the switch over to ABC seemed to have revived the series (more for the first half of the season than the second). The finale was great. Let the show die, it's just not that good anymore.

My Lovely Horse - With the random mentions of the Eurovision song contest around lj I am always reminded of Father Ted when they tried to write a song for the Eurosong contest. Here is a video of the brainstorming session when they are trying to write the song. And here is the BEST MUSIC VIDEO EVER.

Also? I want to see the new Star Trek movie. Maybe this weekend?

ETA: I'm kind of ridiculously excited for MR. BRAIN (my excitment could be based on the title alone) to premiere on Saturday. I've yet to see a KimuTaku drama (Pride is on my list of doom) so I figured I should start now. Plus, it has Mizushima Hiro and Ayase Haruka, both of whom I've come to adore. Normally I'd be turned off my the procedural aspect of it, but I'm promised comedy, so I'm hopeful. They are also starting to stack up some awesome guest stars (Kame! Koyuki! etc...)

ETA BECAUSE IT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANYTHING ELSE IN THIS POST: NAGASE HAS A DRAMA THIS SUMMER?!!!! [livejournal.com profile] uwasako describes it as a comedy spy drama, with Nagase as a master of disguise. So, it's Kurosagi only A MILLION TIMES BETTER?!!! ADS)(ASD)QE*UU:ROI!!!!

OH NEWS

Apr. 9th, 2009 11:15 am
I know I'm completely late on this, but NEWS' new pv for Koi no ABO may be one of the most awkward things I've ever seen. There is a reason the JE backup dancers are usually little boys and not those of the female variety. The only thing that salvages it is the silly disco dance and costume/hairstyles in the second half. I don't think JE really knows what to do with NEWS. I get the feeling that as long as they have Yamapi not much effort is going to get put into that group since they don't really need it.

The song is blah but the only NEWS singles I've actually really liked were weeeek and Summertime, so no real surprise there. I had higher expectations when I heard it was disco-esque because I love me some disco. At least Pi ditched the perm, though I don't like this new hair thing much either. But then, Shige and Massu are suffering from ill-advised hair moves as well. OH NEWS - Why don't you have a personality?

I've been staring at excel spreadsheets all week so I am SUPER excited for my three day weekend. I'm heading up to the Chicagoland area to pick up a FREE armoire for myself. I have yet to see it in person but I am super excited about it. It's big and solid wood and FREE. I know it needs to be stripped and restained because it is currently a kind of baby poop brown and that won't do. But it will look so much better than my current tv console situation.

Easter egg dying is also in my future which is fun. Plus it means deviled eggs, WHICH ARE DELICIOUS.

Besides that I need to pack up some crafting stuff to do over the weekend. I'm experiencing a major time crunch due to my laziness. I've used up all my resin, so the casting portion is done. Now I need to paint Yoko skulls and wingalings and glue barrettes. TICK TOCK.

ETA: And Ashes to Ashes is back on the 20th!
