Ouran High School Host Club

Photobucket

I had so much fun creating a jdrama cast list for Fruits Basket (and hearing everyone else's ideas on who they would cast) I thought I would try my hand at another of my favorite animes: Ouran High School Host Club. This time: kdrama style.

I'm going to be really straight forward here and be honest that I'm not familiar with a lot of the kdrama actors and actresses out there. I'm only pulling from the small pool of people of which I know. And this was pulled together very quick without a lot of thought. It's Monday! Excuses, excuses...

Follow me to the casting couch:

Han Ji Min as Fujioka Haruhi

PhotobucketPhotobucket

I've only seen Han Ji Min in one kdrama, but it happens to be my favorite kdrama (and drama in general) of all time: Capital Scandal. Her Yeo Kyung is tough as nails, so we know she can pull of Haruhi's serious and irritated side. But she's also so insanely adorable.

Gong Yoo
as Suoh Tamaki

PhotobucketPhotobucket

First, Gong Yoo will have to get his ass back from military service already (and grow his hair back out). Probably best known as Han Kyul from Coffee Prince, we know he can be charming (and so very handsome). But he also has the capacity to be the giant, lovable goof that is Tamaki.

Joo Ji Hoon
as Ootori Kyouya

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Can we lament again, JJH's druggie ways? Hopefully he'll be back in the drama world at some point. Maybe in a role like Kyouya here, who is so cool and calculating. Anyone who has seen Goong knows he can pull off reserved. And though I've never watched Mawang myself, I bet he can be pretty sinister as well.

Jung Kyung Ho
and Yoon Kye Sang as the Hitachiin Twins

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

(That's Kaoru on the left, right? I can never remember the hair part thing) This was really hard, because does anyone know of any identical twins working in the kdrama biz at the moment? Because I'm at a complete loss. I feel like it might be a little to hard to pull any camera trips ala Parent Trap for this, given how touchy-feely Hikaru and Kaoru are. So, either find twins, or some guys who kind of look alike. I just chose two actors that I like, that I think could fit the roles.

I see Yoon Kye Sang as Hikaru, the twin with a bit more bite. I think he's capable of doing anything, if his wonderful turn in Who Are You is any indication. I'd never seen Jung Kyung Ho is anything before Smile, You but he has some great comedic timing and I think he would fit the mellower Kaoru well.

Moon Geun Young
as Haninozuka "Honey" Mitsukuni

PhotobucketPhotobucket

I'm guilty of a bit of type casting here, since MGY played a girl pretending to be a boy in Painter of the Wind. But she's kid of an amazing actress and I want to see her in more things. Plus, Honey is tiny so I feel like he needs to be played by a girl (or an idol... but I'm not that familiar with the kpop idols).

Lee Jung Jae
as Morinozuka "Mori" Takashi

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Mori is like the anime version of Hwal (from Triple). He's stoic and watches closely over the one he loves (be it Haru or Honey). Only, he talks less. Lee Jung Jae is way too old to cast in a high school drama (though so is my entire cast for the most part) but I think he could hit this out of the park. It wouldn't be hard for him.

Nam Sang Mi
as Houshakuji Renge

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Nam Sang Mi killed it as the tough older sister in Bad Family (which, if you haven't watched, you totally should because it's pretty darn funny). I feel like Renge is Kim Yang Ah (her character in Bad Family) if she were a crazed otaku. She's strong, willful, and totally has a mind of her own (though she may be out of it).

OK, that's my cast. Who would you guys pick?

W00t, Gong Yoo as Tamaki!! I agree about Moon Geun Young; she is phenomenal actress but having seen her in a few of her earlier works, I know she can pull off the complete and total adorable too. Plus, I betcha she'd be be natural with the Karate moves too (or whatever Honey's family studies). I think you did a fantastic job casting these! :3 Seriously--I could see your choices easily in every situation!

I was this close to picking Kang Ji Hwan as Tamaki because after seeing My Girlfriend is a Secret Agent, I KNOW he can do ridiculous. But I'd want to cast KJH in everything, so I stopped myself.

OMG THIS LIST IS BRILLIANCE. Seconding the above comment, Moon Geun Young could totally pull off Honey. And that Joo Ji Hoon comparison picture made me crack up out loud.

Ah ha ha, it does look kind of goofy the way I cropped it! XD But he had glasses so I thought it worked well.

No no, I meant in a good way! He could be Kyouya's twin! I love it.

[identity profile] cranberrysheep.livejournal.com 2009-10-20 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, okay! He still looks a little cheesetastic in that pose though.

I love this list! Nam Sang Mi as Renge is so awesome! I can totally see it. And YKS and JKH as the twins and Moon Geun Young as Honey is perfect.

Moon Geun Young as Haninozuka "Honey" Mitsukuni

YESYESYES. But that's only my bias for Moon Geun Young. :'D

Gong Yoo and Joo Ji Hoon would be awesome for their roles, too. And I think I'd cast Im Soo Jung as Haruhi - she can pull off the young look despite being an older actress (29 years old!), and she's played characters that were serious like Haruhi. Plus, I'd just want to see a reunion between her and MGY. XP

[identity profile] cranberrysheep.livejournal.com 2009-10-20 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never seen Im Soo Jung in anything!

But I totally considered Moon Geun Young for the role of Haruhi because she'd be awesome. But her as Honey was just too cute.

[identity profile] boycottbananas.livejournal.com 2009-10-20 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Moon Geun Young would be awesome as Haruhi! And Honey! Both! >>

DDDDD: Well, drama-wise, she's only been in 2 (I'm Sorry, I Love You (or Mianhae, Saranghae/MISA) and something else idk), but three of her movies are ones that I have watched repeatedly: A Tale of Two Sisters (all-time favorite horror/psychological thriller movie), Sad Movie, and I'm A Cyborg, But That's Okay. :] You should check them out! They're all pretty different from each other. ^^

You should watch A Tale of Two Sisters! Im Soo Jung and Moon Geun Young are the sisters.

Not terribly. There are some scary scenes but it's mostly a psychological mindfuck.
satoyan: (Ouran: Haruhi)

Oh, I'm so in love with Ouran. I just started downloading episodes so I can have a rewatch.

All of your picks look good! Your Renge looks especially apt. : )

I keep meaning to pick up the manga. I read the first volume but nothing else. I'm not very good at keeping up with series.

You are such a dork. I mean that in a good way. :)
