New addition

Instead of putting my holiday bonus towards some dull and reasonable like my student loans I went ahead and bought a new tv. It's a purchase I've been thinking about on and off for some time. With a little extra scratch in the bank and the fact I watch way too much tv for my own good, I decided it was time to take the plunge. So, I've upgraded from my old-timey 27" CRT to a beautiful 40" LED.

As an extra bonus, it's a Google TV. So, while Hulu is (obnoxiously) blocked, I can surf the internet. Which means dramas on the big screen!

All that's left now is to get my HD service turned on.

Nothing much else to report. My mother is in town for the week, so I haven't been watching dramas. Once the company is gone though, I'm definitely going to check out Wild Romance. What is everyone else looking forward to? As far as I can recall nothing on the jdrama schedule caught my eye, but it's been a while since I looked.

Oh! I also want to check out the twdrama, Skip Beat!. Who is watching that?

I checked out the first episode of Wild Romance and found it funny. It hasn't really hooked me yet but it was kind of fun to watch and while the story's a bit slow, the leads are taking to their character with gusto. (And I admit to have a small weakness for Lee Dong-wook since My Girl is my favorite drama ever, lol).

And I'm also watching Skip Beat and it's alright. It doesn't blow me away but it's entertaining and quirky. I love the story of Skip Beat anyway so it's not a hard drama to sell to me, lol. It is a bit distracting that Choi Si-won and Dong-hae are being dubbed. The girl playing Kyoko (Ivy Chen? I think?) is pretty decent though. =)

Oh good! I've actually only ever seen LDW in Scent of a Woman and while he's attractive enough, he also tends to have dead/shark eyes. I just thought it sounded like a cute set-up, so I'm definitely going to give it a try.

I forgot about the dubbing issue! :/ That's going to be strange. I've only watched two Taiwanese dramas to completion... so I guess we'll see how this goes.

I dont know if it'll really be your bag but I LOOOVE wild romance. alot of people aren't impressed yet but I am 100% hooked and I weep at each day that passes without another episode. Its because it hits so many of my narrative kinks. Childish ridiculous people bickering with each other. like the goofy tomboy heroine (omg best heroine, she not only can give as good as she gets, but she's a crazy baseball fan, and aggressive. its just so fun to watch a heroine be so unfeminine and tomboyish) and the hotheaded male lead and i was almost sorry lee dong wook didnt go a bit more crazy with his character (but then I guess no one wants another dok go jin scenario even though i found him hystericla) but he definitely was more alive than i've ever seen him. i've tried My Girl and it did nothing for me and lee dong wook's character (and perhaps himself) was a big part of the problem. I guess I need my male leads to be more lively. He's really doing it for me here tho. His character is a total jerk but not the kind that you cant imagine being redeemed or growing up later on (although hopefully not too much since for me the charm in the drama seeing these two characters act like over grown children with each other, pulling pranks and engaging in stupid competitions) so yes it totally works for me but i can already see how it could be the opposite for other people. and we seem to disagree on dramas alot XD

See, it sounds like something I'll really enjoy. But humor can be really tricky to get right. Like, for example, Flower Boy Ramyun Shop just did not work for me, but other people found it hilarious.

Re: Dokko Jin. I thought he was hilarious. My issue with his character was that he didn't know what ~feelings~ were. That aspect of his characterization just bugged me (and has bugged me in other dramas. See, again: FBRS), despite how funny I found his reactions to said feelings... if that makes sense.

Well I hope you DO enjoy it. goodness knows i'd love more fangirls to talk about kdramas with. esp this one. and I looooved flower boy ramyun shop. I was so sad to hear it didnt work for you :( speaking of wild romance, is it wrong if i kind of dont want them to fall in love too soon? I mean i just enjoy them hating each other's guts SO MUCH XD

other dramas I'm keeping an eye on is Moon Embraces the Sun and History of the Salaryman. The latter of which I cannot recommend enough, its hilarious, its twisted, and its got some real heart and depth going on as well. Its also whip smart and I am loving it. I had ZERO expectations of it and I tried out ep 2 and 3 because dramabeans recap for ep 1 made it sound interesting. If you have time I say definitely give it a whirl.
