I may have gone to see Star Trek twice this weekend. I may have LOVED IT and would totally watch it again if I could. That was just a fun, well-written, well-acted, thoroughly enjoyable movie going experience.

I do still find it a little funny that so many people are freaking out over this movie, when just a short time ago Star Trek was a giant joke. Which, yeah, it was, but the movies (at least the majority of the TOS ones and Generations) were quite good. But this one really toned down the camp factor. But it did it without losing the heart of the original. So many times when things are redone they suck all the fun out of it, and they so didn't this time. It was just a fantastic movie, I can't say enough wonderful things about it. If you haven't seen it, DO. I don't care if you're not a Star Trek fan because you will like this movie. I honestly don't see how anyone couldn't.

The rest of Memorial Day weekend was spent helping my mother garden. So my chest is nice and red (not really sunburnt, just a little toasty). It wasn't too insanely hot which was a bonus, but boy was it a lot of work. Digging and hauling clay, planting, mulching (WHICH I HATE. Lugging around twenty bags of sweaty woodchips is not fun), etc. etc.

I finished ToGetHer as well. It was a little difficult to get through the last couple of episodes after stepping away from the series for a few weeks. Momo and Mars were still adorable, but the majority of the story had been told. They just wrung out a few more pieces of unneccesary drama, so that was a little tiresome. It was Momo's fault, for as strong as she was in the beginning, she got a little wishy-washy. I found it tiresome because it was so obvious how completely in love with her Mars was, she was only trying to fool herself. I think Mars may be one of my favorite drama characters ever. He grew from the entitled, self-absorbed (but HILARIOUS) man-child into a grown-up, caring, responsible and loving young man. It was wonderful. How could you not love him?

Now I am just waiting anxiously for the subs for the last episode of Atashinchi no Danshi to come out (the subbers took a break for the long weekend) and the first episode of Mr. Brain. I think I am going to start Painter of the Wind next, since it got good reviews from several people whose opinions I trust. I also need to finish capping the last episode of Exhibition of Fireworks so I can start watching and doing recaps for Smiling Pasta.

Oh! I also introduced my mother to True Blood (which is a little awkward to watch with your mother, since Jason Stackhouse can't keep it in his pants). It was kind of a vampirey weekend, since we watched the second and third craptacular Underworld movies. Now I'm all anxious for the next season to start. I need my summer tv now!

ETA: Saw a preview for Blood: The Last Vampire which looks AWESOME. It looks like a mixture of Kill Bill, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, AND VAMPIRES. I am very excited.

ETA RETURNS: Totally just spoiled myself for AtaDan ep 7 (which isn't even the one I am waiting to watch) and OMG. Must watch it nooooow. Chisato/Sho FTW.

ETA THRICE: Apparently there is a possible new Buffy movie in the works, with no involvement from Whedon at all. I have my issues with the man, but that may be one of the worst ideas ever.

OMG, I LOVED Star Trek too! I went to see it with Dad on Friday, because I thought you and Wilma were going on Saturday, which I couldn't have joined in on, since I worked then... (woah, long sentence!) I'm sad I didn't get to go with you, but I did see it two nights in a row >.> I HAD to show it to Liz on a late show on Saturday ^^;; ANYways, I totally loved it ^^ /rant

Blah, sun burn! But, it still always feels nice to get things planted and/or cleaned up. Wilma really liked Painter of the Wind, but from what I watched, it was sad in some areas... YES FINISH EoF!!!

It was so fantastic. I can't decide who my favorite character was, it is kind of a toss up between Kirk and Bones, with Kirk having the slightest of edge. Maybe just because he had more screentime? I don't know. Everyone was so awesome it is difficult to choose.

Our yard is really starting to look like something, so I am pleased, but it is a lot of work. It was really nice to be outside though. And I count it as exercise, because I have been so slack on that for the past month.

OH EM GEE! I LOVE YOUR ICON!!!

Yeah, I really liked Simon Pegg (OBVIOUSLY) as Scotty, and Bones was super awesome. I think I may have liked Chekov the most though, because he was just so damn cute X3 I had completely forgotten that there was a Russian on board the Enterprise--but he was just adorable, especially when he warped them in mid-air! Goooood times.

Chekov was FREAKING ADORABLE. "I can do that, I can do that!"

I love it too! I saw it and knew I had to take it. I totally loled when Wilma captioned that Misty May pic on facebook.

I'm completely and utterly in love with AnD, and yes, I am also waiting extremely anxiously for the subs for episode 6. I've watched some of it already, and read a summary, so I'm good for now...

And episode 7 comes out today!!! (OMG I'm dying for the Sho / Chisato action too! When I saw the previews I just about flipped with glee! I KNEW they were OTP!)

Okay, that was a little crazy...

[livejournal.com profile] nomanymore has caps up for ep 7. I went looking through them precisely for the scene that you capped from ep 6's preview. OMG SO EXCITED.

Sorry, I kinda flipped out a bit from awesome overload there... This show is lovely lovely crack.

I gotta say, when I heard about Star Trek I was underwhelmed-- I mean, I'd outgrown the series a long time ago (maybe it sounds elitist, but I had trouble watching TNG and Voyager when it was on TV because Doctor Who had spoiled my sci-fi expectations.). Then several online nerds gave it a kind of lukewarm review ("It wasn't THAT bad, guys!") which I now see was to stem the tide of all those trekkies with "OMG they RUINED IT!!!" disease.

I was very impressed with it as a movie-- everyone turned in brilliant performances (particularly Chekov, Bones, and Scotty *squeeee!*) I thought I would never see such a film without melodrama and camp, but the film had neither-- I genuinely got teary when Kirk's dad was broadcasting to /Cameron/ Kirk's mom . . .

All in all-- I'd go see it again in a heartbeat!

I wasn't excited because the last couple Star Trek movies have been less than good. First Contact was the last good one, if I remember correctly. I was too young to get into TNG, but I know my mom liked it. I saw episodes here and there and know the main characters, and I liked it, but was never a huge fan. I never got into Voyager, DP9, or Enterprise though. I'm really just a fan of the movies, which I should rewatch since I have the worst memory in the history of ever.

OMG, I was like "Why is Cameron in space?"

I'm excited for sequels~~~~~

So I almost didn't read this post for fear of spoilers lol. Star Trek doesn't come out here till friday. I wanna see it noooooow lol. I'm so glad everyone says it turned out well. I was afraid they would mess it up like you said. But yes, totally excited to see it. I also agree, it is weird to see it turn into such a fad. I wonder how many people who are like "OMG Star Trek Movie" now have actually seen the original series.

On a separte note, I did get the money in the mail yesterday, just to let you know ^_^

You know, they're showing Star Trek in 3D at one of the theaters on the south side.
