DRAMA DUMP

Jun. 30th, 2011 12:15 pm
Where the heck have I been? Flist, I don't even know. Summer is getting away from me. I can't believe it's almost the 4th. Because that, as most Americans know, pretty much signals the end of summer. We're rounding the turn and headed down the homestretch. Way to be depressing, sorry.

Mostly I've been working. And I'm legitimately busy at work now (new job is going pretty well!), so I don't have the freedom to peruse LJ as often as I used (or would like) to. Plus, I'm kind of all about tumblr at the moment. I'm upsydownsy over there. CH-ch-ch-ch-check it out.

BUT, I have been watching dramas. I wrapped up Get Karl! Oh Soo-jung, Best Love, and Lie to Me in the last week. And I enjoyed them all for the most part, though none were spectacular. They are rom-coms, which is my go-to genre. I'm pretty much guaranteed to like a rom-com granted it's not exheedingly un-romantic or un-comedic. But there has to be something extra to push it over the top for me. And while I liked these three, none of them possessed that extra spark, they were always missing something.

LIE TO ME

I actually don't have much to complain about with this little show. I went into it with very low expectations, because it was all thrown together so quickly. They didn't even start shooting it until a month before the air date, right? And casting was all kind of last minute. The entire thing just had disaster written all over it. And narratively, it was. The set-up was clunky to say the very least. Those first couple of episodes were pretty painful, but then ... spoilers for this show and then talk about Best Love and Get Karl! )

NEXT UP: What is everyone watching this coming season? Myung-wol the Spy is the only kdrama I'm going to be watching (at the moment). I'm definitely going to check out the Ouran drama (though I'm wary) and Arakawa Under the Bridge even though I've never read the manga or watched the anime, I just find Kiritani Mirei freaking adorable.
Day 10: Your Favorite Line/s by a Female Third Wheel

Unspoken Transformation - Mi-rae (Exhibition of Fireworks & Dae-soon (Get Karl! Oh Soo-jung)

Secondary lead women often speak volumes without saying a single word be it through evil glares or, my personal favorite, Meaningful!Wardrobe!Changes! The first instance of this I can remember was Chae Mi-rae in Exhibition of Fireworks who was in love with her dead fiance's brother. In any other show she very well could have been the heroine given the whole star-crossed lovers and parental disapproval thing she had going. But in Fireworks she was the second lead and therefore tried to rope her boyfriend into being her baby daddy and engaged in other under-handed tactics. About midway through the run of the show she adopted a severe ponytail to represent her newfound antagonist role and never looked back.

Dae-soon in Get Karl! Oh Soo-jung went through a similar transformation going from a bespectacled, soft-spoken jewelry store clerk into full on femme fatale mode in order to get. her. man. (and represent her evil female ways)

Get Karl! Oh Soo-jung... not sure of the episode. 7, I think? Nothing really spoilery though, beyond the dramawiki summary of the plot. But, probably the most beligerent piggy-back I've ever witnessed. Image Heavy )
The opening fantasy sequence to episode three of Get Karl! Oh Soo Jung. I have...so very many thoughts, that I don't even know where to begin. But it really speaks for itself...

Good/Bad

Things I'm excited about:

Troy is owning Sheldon in the Elite Eight Round of Fandom March Madness. I really think he has a shot of winning the whole thing and I'M SO EXCITED. I love that other people have realized what an awesome character he is. The Community gifspams and youtube clips in the comments are a thing of beauty. LOVE IT.

Things I'm annoyed with:

1. I randomly started Get Karl! Oh Soo Jung, because Oh Ji Ho's dimples do it to me every time. I kind of love the heroine, despite how cold it was of her to ditch a guy at the altar for failing the bar exam. She's pretty funny.

HOWEVER, when is Korea going to realize that just because a woman is over 30 doesn't mean her insides have dried up and withered away. The fact that Uhm Jung Hwa is beautiful hurts their case a great deal. It's hard to take it seriously.

2. I'm looking to move, because my one bedroom is getting a little claustrophobic. Of course, as soon as I start looking, Google shuts down their real estate search on Googlemaps, which was the BEST way to find places. Now I'm stuck with the classifieds and craigslist. I found my current place on craigslist, but there is virtually nothing in the area/price range I'm looking for.

The first issue is that the majority of listings are for apartment buildings, which I'm not interested in. I want a house/duplex/condo, so already my choices are cut down. The second issue is that spammers are freaking everywhere. Two places I emailed about send me emails asking me to "verify that I'm human" and sent me to a website where I'm supposed to enter my cell phone number.

Yeah, that's not going to happen.

So annoying.
