Since I've run out of Triple to watch and had to find something else to entertain myself. I watched the first episode of Desperate Romantics, a new BBC series about the pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. I don't know if I'll watch anymore, because as attractive as Aiden Turner is (MITCHELL)- watching men be complete pigs is one of my least favorite past times. It was funny though... we'll see.

I also watched the 3rd and 4th episode of Painter of the Wind (Hey! Artists again!). This is infinitely more lovely. I also kind of loved the bath/swing scene for how subversive/suggestive it was.

I can't really blame Desperate Romantics for being brazen where PotW is more delicate considering the actual history of the Brotherhood, but I far prefer the beauty of PotW.

Yon Bok's muse is gorgeous, and has really awesome hair. [livejournal.com profile] sailorgaia - what are those called again?

They are doing a really great job of tying her work in with the world around her. It's really interesting seeing everything fall into place....

I just love all the costumes and the colors. Sagueks are fantastic when it comes to that. PotW is just so lush, I was doomed before I even started watching.

Painter of the Wind! ♥ ♥ ♥ The "swinging" scene almost made me choke. So subtly, utterly filthy.

SERIOUSLY. How'd that slip past the censors? They barely let people kiss.

I could picspam this series forever. The visuals are truly amazing; I loved it soooo much! :D

And the wigs are called "gache's" & I desperately want to make one someday.

I remember trying to watch Painter of the Wind but the subs were too hard to follow D:
But these caps and your descriptions are really making me want to pick it up again.

I've had to pause it several times because the subs have been too long for me to read in time. But the lush visuals and fantastic characters are more than enough to make it worthwhile. I'd give it another shot if you have time.

I think I will. I haven't seen a period drama in ages and this one is so pretty and slashy

In terms of Desperate Romantics, because i studied them at school and pretty much knew that they were basically into women (with their shitty attitudes alas), drinking and being laddish generally so the drama was sort of what i expected.

I mean, Rossetti was the type of guy to put a bunch of poems into his dead wife's (Lizzie Siddal) coffin and then later on decide he wanted the poems back so he had her coffin dug up. O______o And you've got Millais who was told by their patron (Ruskin) to shack up with his wife 'cos Ruskin couldn't do the job apparently. And don't get me started on Holman Hunt. Lol.

Still. I love some of their artwork.

Yeah, I had a vague understanding of their history going in, I'm just not sure if I'm going to really enjoy it that much if I kind of hate the majority of the characters.

It did make me laugh on several occasions.

"Wait... are you saying everything I did before was SHIT?"

I think of the three (Samuel doesn't count 'cos he's not a real person) Rossetti is probably the one to 'hate' 'cos he's typical bounder character. And anyway, i've seen worse people so i think i'll continue and slightly wince at the historical inaccuracies.

Also, i'm in love with the floppy hair and costumes lol.

If you want something else to try, how about another BBC programme i talked about - Personal Affairs? It's about these four PAs and their hunt to find their friend who's gone missing and it's funny and sexy (kind of like Sex in the City in an office and British) and it's got Lauren from Being Human in it.

HERE'S (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-jCjZCDzKQ) the trailer. It's short - only 5 episodes long but v. good. XD

Wait, who was Samuel?

I'm going to watch the next episode and if it doesn't interest me a bit more I may drop it. Or I may not since it's not that long anyway! :D

I'll check it out! I also need to watch the second season of Spaced and the rest of My Life in Film (I've only seen two episodes).

Samuel was the non-painter. Oh shit no, his name was Fred right? I was thinking about the actor's name lol. Aidan is Rossetti, young looking genius Millais and thug Holman Hunt.

I like having short seasons but then i really get into the shows and get all upset when they finish lol. XD

I have Spaced on DVD to watch too lol. XD

all up in ur lj today

Rosetti was a SOCIOPATH. I am holding to this view of him forever. I so want to try and watch this too cause I love bbc period dramas and AIDEN TURNER HELLO GORGEOUS but my god were the pre raphaelite boys assholes, artistic assholes but still assholes. and even the ones who arent total jerks are still kind of...offputting :( but who knows I might be able to actually enjoy it or stomach it. I am just waiting until the images of rosetti digging up his lovers corpse (and trading around their woman more often than square dancers at a country gathering) fade from my mind.

btw have you seen north and south? everyone keeps telling me it was A+ so I feel like should I watch it? I want opinions lol.

watching men be complete pigs is one of my least favorite past times

precisely how i feel. and you said it so much more concisely! Sadly even though Aiden Turner is indeed a sexy sexy beast, he is also playing the most depraved one of all "gabriel rosetti" aka the one who dug up his old lover/muse's corpse just so he could get back the poems he wrote for her and give them to another (deeply unfortunate) lover of his. That's like not even the sickest thing he did is the truly fucked up part about this. at least we can say he was a good painter so his vile existence upon the earth was semi justified unlike all the other sociopath/assholes who exist in this world for no good reason at all but to bedevil the rest of us. sorry do I sound bitter? I'm not really. Really. *cough*

I guess my statement isn't entirely true, because I absolutely adore Mad Men and all of the male characters in that are pretty awful. Of course, so are the majority of female characters. So I guess it's even?
