Finished episode two of Gumiho: Tale of the Fox's Child and I kind of love it. I don't recall ever watching a drama like this. It's first and foremost a story about a mother and a daughter. Sure, there is bound to be some romance, suspense, and other dramatic elements but at the soul of the show is a mother's love for her daughter. They just both happen to be nine-tailed foxes. Whatcha gonna do?
Well, don't mess with her daughter for one thing. I'm just saying...

The main dilemma so far (besides Mama Gumiho losing out on her chance to be human because her husband couldn't keep one tiny secret) is the daughter of a lord is cursed. When we first see her Cho Ok's suffering from some kind of plague and when that passes, she loses her sight.
The local shaman tells the lord he needs to find a child with the exact same birthday as his daughter, down to the minute. Then, on her tenth birthday have her eat the kid's liver.

She also suffers from a serious case of SPOILED BRAT. Seriously, she's awful.
Guess who the lucky liver donor is? Why it's Yeon Yi, our adorable Little Gumiho.
After a big how-to-do involving San Daek (Momma Gumiho) stealing jade beads from graves and Yeon Yi getting caught, they eventually end up in the Lord's household. San Daek is good at dealing with Cho Ok's various issues, and Yeon Yi has that tasty liver.
Granted, he does initially decide to let them leave, but when they get apprehended for their crimes he goes to speak for them and brings them back to his place. San Daek agrees to stay for a while. Really she just wants to go back to living in the forest, but knows Yeon Yi won't be able to until she is 10 and comes fully into her foxy powers (they involve a lot of wirework, yellow contacts, and a SUPER FLUFFY TAIL).
In the mean time, the lord feels super guilty about planning to kill a child (a fact he's keeping secret from everyone) and takes an immediate shine to Yeon Yi. It's hard not to because she's a good kid. He doesn't let her work and buys her a little paint set, which is cute, but since he's going to murder her there is a bit of a damper on the whole father-figure thing.
On to the pics!
Yeon Yi beaming when the lord compliments her drawing, while he wrestles with the knowledge he's going to have to cut her liver out.

Cho Ok hates Yeon Yi and would probably fully support the consumption of her liver.

Two little assholes destroying her pretty picture. I think they might be the lord' bastards? All I really know is that they are wretched.

Love interest for Yeon Yi?

They met down by the river catching the magical drama fireflies that never blink

Cho Ok, of course, likes the young master as well. So she reacts as expected when she learns about their relationship.

Raaaaaaaaaage
Mute love interest for Momma Gumiho. He's also a bit of a guardian angel for Yeon Yi when she gets harassed by the Wonder Twins and Cho Ok has her thrown in a well

In conclusion, the CG is a little cheesetastic, but so far I'm really enjoying it and like our two leading ladies quite a bit.
