I don’t even know what to think anymore about the two currently airing kdramas I’m watching at the moment. I’m through the first eight episodes of each. When it all began, Best Love was by far the big winner. I only kept up on Lie to Me because of my allegiance to Kang Ji-hwan and Yoon Eun-hye’s sheer adorability. For the most part it was pretty stale and tired where Best Love was all sparkly and made me laugh, like, A LOT.
But now they seem to have switched roles. Where Dokko Jin amused me to no end in BL, now I’m just getting annoyed. It doesn’t help that Pil-joo is kind of perfect. I still don’t ship him with Ae-jung, because there is no chemistry from my perspective (beyond friends, obv), but Jin just continues to be an ass. At some point he has to stop treating his liking of Ae-jung as a disease or something to ‘get over’. It’s rude and obnoxious and all the little favors in the world don’t make up for treating the woman you want to date like shit. It’s abusive and not funny.

I’m having the same issue with Ae-jung as I did with Gong Hyo-jin’s character in Hello My Teacher. She started out awesome and just faded until I couldn’t stand to see her on screen because her inability to speak up for herself was enraging. I’m not to that point with Ae-jung yet, but I’m starting to see the warning signs. And it’s disappointing because I thought she was going to be a great character, not crazy outspoken but sweet and silently strong.
And then comes along episodes 7 and 8 of Lie to Me and they kind of blow me out of the water. They were like, legitimately good. Where did that come from? I laughed and greatly enjoyed all of KJH and YEH’s scenes together. The rest of the show? Eh. But I love them. I think the show writers made a big misstep in the beginning by not giving them more screen-time together (and devoted so much time to Sang-hee who I believe to be a spoiler brat and a major creeper). They play off each other so well. THIS IS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR SHOW.

ALSO: COLA KISS. AM I RIGHT?

Lie to Me was so so bad, majorly turned off/bored after the first 2 eps, checked back in at ep 6 but it was still my "just watching for the makeouts, second-choice drama" - and now I admit I'd rather get a new episode of Lie to Me than Best Love (even though BL is still I think technically better). But neither are wholly satisfying, sigh. I don't know what I'd do if it weren't for lovely, functional, wonderful Drunken to Love You.
