DRAMA BOYFRIEND SUPER BOWL TIED AT 11-11 VOTE NOW!

SO, I finished Something Happened in Bali and quickly moved on to Fantasy Couple because I needed something as light-hearted and fun as Bali was depressing and soul-crushing.

Seriously, I don't believe any other drama has so nearly convinced me that the human race is nothing more than a collection of incredibly selfish and self-serving villains. At least in Maou there were some glimpses of good. In Bali, nothing of the sort. Even our heroine who began the show as a bright spot of spunk and determination despite her situation was soon revealed to be just as money-hungry as everyone else.

I don't think anyone on that show was capable of caring about anything other than their own feelings. Even for how much Jae Min loved Soo Jung, what mattered (in the VERY TRAGIC END) was how he felt. So even though I really wanted to root for him because he had been through so much and fought so hard, it was impossible. Love as no place in the world of Bali, because while Soo Jung claimed to love her pride was always more important. Better to take care of yourself than risk anything.

Liar Game 2 was pretty much what I expected it to be - a weak retread of the original series. Liar Game never really felt like a true drama to me, more like a very fun reality show. The problem that Liar Game faces is keeping people engaged. It's just as easy to get sucked in as it is to have your eyes glaze over. This happens for me whenever the games go on for multiple episodes. It all gets so convoluted that nothing makes sense and you just want Akiyama to win already because you know he will. That was the main issue with LG2, there were too many looooong games, especially that gold-smuggling one. It wasn't even that clever and just went. on. for.e.v.e.r.

That's why I think the movie is going to be really good. They have a small timeframe to work in and I'm sure they will make the best of it.

I just have ONE episode of Fantasy Couple left and I'm not going to be able to get to it for a couple of days and it's killing me. I just want Anna and Chul Soo to have their happily ever after already. The series chugged along so nicely in the beginning, but these last two eps have dragged. It's like the writers realized they wanted some angst so they threw in some half-cooked reason why the leads had to be apart.

It's mopey and not nearly as fun as the rest of the series was. If they wanted angst they should have done more with that girl who loved Chul Soo. Wasted opportunity in my opinion. She was so close to being wickedly evil but never quite reached it.

That being said, I'm pretty sure I want to do a post solely about Jo Anna, because she is AMAZING. What a great character.

Also, Smile, You got extended AGAIN. I'm already behind 5 episodes thanks to viikii hiccuping and links getting broken. I may cry.
I went ahead and cancelled my AT&T service. They don't offer Uverse in my area so I figured I'd just switch to another provider where I could get tv and internet. Comcast, of course, isn't offered in my area so I was stuck with Brighthouse. It's more than I want to spend, so I may end up cancelling the cable at some point, but we shall see. I may enjoy getting AMC, TLC, and Sci-Fi (Syfy?) a little too much once I get my hands on them. It opens my world up to a ton of cable shows that I've stayed away from because I was too lazy to download. PLUS, waaaaaaaay faster internet.

Anyway, they are coming on Saturday morning to install everything. I'm looking forward to it. I get the shakes when I can't have my email open 24/7.

My neighbor came over yesterday. Turns out she only lived there about 8 days out of the month as she spends the majority of her time at her boyfriends house across town. At that point, why not just move in together and save yourself the rent and bills? I don't understand. But that works out nicely for me since it will be nice at quiet. I dig.

She seems very friendly, if a little hyperactive, which on a 29 year old was a little odd. But nice and excitable is better than creepy and sullen. So I think it's a win for the most part.

Turns out that my landlord just recently bought the place from some guy. I'm hoping that's why NONE of the electrical has been upgraded. Holly said she can't plug her blow dryer in the front room without blowing a fuse. My main issue is the lack of three-pronged outlets. I had to buy a bunch of converters from the hardware store just so I could plug my crap in. The outlets are old and loose, so, yay fire hazard.

Lost was a stupid recap episode last night, so I took the opportunity to NOT unpack and instead finish Love Shuffle. The magic definitely wore off for me with that show. It was a struggle to make it through the last half because honestly I didn't care. I truly enjoyed half the cast and thought the characters were interesting, but the plot felt very slapdash. I appreciated the funny moments, but any attempt at drama left me feeling very 'eh' about the whole thing. It felt like something integral was missing. It lacked heart which is too made because the cast was totally capable of making it awesome if they'd been given better material. But now it is off my plate, so yay!

Once I get my internet this weekend I'll be able to get the last three episodes of Tiger & Dragon (FAR SUPERIOR, OMG) and finish that.

Looks like Liar Game is getting a second season AND movie. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I enjoyed the series but thought the finale was incredibly dull. So I'm not sure how successful another stretch on the storyline will work. Can I put in a request for more focus on the Nao/Akiyama relationship? At least a GLIMPSE of something more? It would be a nice break from me trying to figure out all the puzzles.

...I need to cap the last episode of EoF.  I haven't forgotten, I promise!
Japanese dramas are dangerous, especially for my addictive personality. I had to cut myself off entirely from them during my final semester. Because once I was introduced to them, I couldn't stop watching them. And when you keep telling yourself 'just ONE more episode' but you end up watching the entire series in practically one seating... that's a problem. So, after inhaling both Hana Yori Dango seasons, Kimi wa Petto, and Gokusen I told myself NO MORE. FINISH SCHOOL. So I finished school, and fell out of the habit. Which was not a bad thing at all.

But then, Wilma mentioned all the dramas she's been watching and it's like something snapped in my brain... Why wasn't I watching these? Well, they lead to nothing but trouble, but that's beside the point. So, I introduced Greer to Hana Yori Dango and by rewatching that I got really excited to watch more of everything out there.

I haven't been interested in any specific anime for a really long time. The last one was Fruits Basket, which I love, but that ended and I got sick of trying to read scanlations online because it's slow and tedious and annoying. And then it got licensed and I really don't want to spend $10 on a manga I'll read once. I'll watch various episodes of anime here and there but nothing ever really interested me. Sure, Ouran was cute, but I watched it and was done with it. No desire for anything more.

But now I'm watching the j-drama "Hanazakari no Kimitachi e" (haven't read the manga or seen the Taiwanese version) and I think I might be obsessed. It's just so ridiculous and fun and wierd, everything that Japanese tv is that American tv will never be. I can't get enough. And Ikuta Toma as Nakatsu may be the cutest thing on the face of the earth. I never would have guessed that he played Junpei in the first ep of HYD2, because I didn't like him at all there. But in HanaKimi, I don't know... maybe it's his facial expressions... but I just think he's adorable.

Next I want to watch "Liar Game" and then... who knows what else.
