I made some Christmas cookies recently and took some crappy pictures, and now I'm going to share them! They weren't anything complicated. Far from it, actually. Kind of lazy, white-trash-ish even? I made Chocolate Gooey Butter Cookies and Peppermint Bark. The chocolate cookies were made using cake mix, so pretty much the only thing easier is to just go ahead and buy the already made dough and slice (or break off) yourself some cookies. Peppermint Bark is made with white chocolate, which can't really be called chocolate, but I love peppermint. One of my favorite things about Christmas-time is Fannie May Peppermint Ice (and peppermint ice cream. YUM).

It was all edible in the end. Success! )

Things I need to do:
  • Buy something for our extended family grab bag. It's all for laughs, but I'm having a hard time coming up with something. I'm thinking about a giant bouncy ball I saw at Bed Bath & Beyond

  • Finish Hotaru no Hikari 2 so I can make my year end drama list. I haven't watched any dramas since the beginning of November. It's crazy. I have been watching a LOT of Psych and I'm kind of in love with Gus, fyi.

  • Bitch about how Community didn't get a Golden Globe nomination. It's ridiculous.

My car started yelling at me about the air pressure in my tires yesterday , so I went to four different gas stations last night after work. The first one ate my money and didn't work, the second one at least had an "out of order" sign up, the third one didn't have an air pump, and the fourth was having it's parking lot repaved. I finally gave it up as a lost cause and went home.
Good: I got a new furnace! The old one got banished to the side of the road and became part of the winterscape of my front yard Saturday morning. Yeah, I'm classin' up the joint:

Someone picked it up at some point. Good riddance to bad rubbish. I much prefer my functioning (and much more quiet) new furnace. Although, my skin is crazy dry all the time now. Maybe I should invest in a humidifier?

Bad: The Colts lost to the Cowboys. Something is wrong with Peyton. Four interceptions in two consecutive games? I know our O-Line is bad, but COME ON. We need to pull out of the nosedive Thursday against the Titans or we are SOL.

Annoying: I exceeded my bandwidth (totally typed 'bandwitch' there... which is totally how I'm feeling) on Photobucket again and I'm not sure how since I haven't posted much of anything. Plus, I removed all the gifs, so it's not that. However, instead of living with my page looking like horse manure for the rest of the month, I moved my background elements over to livejournal.

I need to find a better solution (maybe a second Photobucket account?) because I hate the LJ gallery system. And, I'm going to do a quick picspam, so the annoyance is fresh in my mind:

I made pork buns this weekend to edible, if weak, results. Witness the mediocrity... )
I was at my parents' house this weekend, and besides getting my ass handed to me in Guitar Hero by my sisters I spent the weekend helping my mom refurbish a used couch she picked up off of craigslist. Personally, used couches disturb me a little bit. The only reason I own a used couch is it was pretty much untouched. Someone bought it for their mom and then turned around and put her in a home. Other used couches just look so dirty. You don't know what the previous owners have spilt (or DONE) on there. There very well could have been some bare ass on that sofa cushion, AND YOU'LL NEVER KNOW. Unlike wood furniture, which I'm all about buying used, you can't really scrap away the grime. Anything questionable is just sitting in the fabric and padding, just waiting. EW.

Anyway, she bought this couch off of craigslist and got a pretty awesome deal on it. It was a baseline Pottery Barn couch that retails for $1200 and she got it for $250. The only problem is that it was cream (I don't know why anyone in their right mind would by a white couch unless they want to go insane anytime someone touches it) AND they had put it down in the basement and let their kids run free all over it. It was ripped and covered in markers, dirt, and random other stains. COVERED in them. We had our work cut out for us:

We're going to dye it espresso brown as soon as we find some decent fabric dye. Sorry, RIT, you kind of suck.

I also made bibimbap )
I don't think I can put into words how happy I am that winter is coming to an end. I've self-diagnosed myself with S.A.D. as when the sun finally appeared after weeks upon weeks of dreary grey sky I could physically feel my spirits lift. Plus, I only had to wear a jacket to work today! This is awesome! Although now that the snow is melted I can see all the leaves that didn't get raked up :(

This weekend was fairly productive as I got a start on my spring cleaning. I've decided to stay in the place I'm living (I've moved the last three years once my lease is up) so I figured it was time to start unpacking. I first tackled my desk area which had become a resting spot for all the crap I didn't know what to do with. The next think I'll tackle will be the wardrobe I refinished last summer this is currently housing bins of books, crafts, and misc items. It's a mess. Also! I put up curtains!

After watching Fantasy Couple and compiling the subsequent Anna picspam, I've REALLY wanted to try jjajangmyun. So, that was my other mission besides cleaning this weekend. This called for a trip to the international grocery store on the other side of town. I'd only been in there once before just to look around, but this time I had specific needs in mind. In particular, I needed black bean paste, which I learned is not in fact made from black beans, but rather fermented soy beans. I also decided to try my hand at ddukboki while I was at it so I grabbed some red pepper paste and rice cakes.

Success? )

Spoilers for Dal Ja's Spring )

Randomly watched the end of the Oscars last night since I couldn't sleep. SO happy The Hurt Locker won for Best Movie. Avatar looked spectacular but there really wasn't any meat there. After watching The Hurt Locker... let's just say I don't remember feeling quite so tense after finishing a movie in quite some time. It really pulled you into the landscape and the emotions and didn't even need 3-D to do it.

Finally got around to watching The Hangover this weekend and it was pretty funny. Not the be all and end of al comedic movies as other people were proclaiming, but enjoyable. Watched 17 Again and that was a goofy time. That Efron kid is actually pretty funny.
