Hey guys! Sorry for neglecting for lj... again. I've been spending my online time over on tumblr for the most part.

Real life is been... quite full. Especially in the work realm. And I just haven't been watching that many dramas. I gave King 2 Hearts a try for four episodes but was bored (not quite to tears... but nearly there). I think I just need to stay away from North Korean spy dramas. I don't even know what that show was trying to be. But if it was trying to be dull, it really succeeded. Maybe it got better after 4 episodes, maybe other people liked it, but its not for me. And I'm past staying with dramas I don't care anything about.

I did randomly start Rooftop Prince even though I had no intention of doing so. And I surprisingly REALLY enjoy it. I'm totally in it for the comedic aspect of it, because the romance (through six episodes) leaves me completely unengaged. I think I just don't care about the male lead. But when the drama stays in the comedy realm I am completely on board. I haven't laughed like that at a drama in a long time.

I'm also slowly watching My Girl which is pretty good. Yoo-rin is fantastic. Gong-chan has the potential to be so, I'm still waiting since I've heard so many great things about him. But MAN, I can't be the only one who intensely dislikes Lee Jun-ki's character, right?

OH! And I watched the SPEC SP and like all things SPEC it was great. And made me want to watch the drama again, which I probably will.

1. Moving suuuuuuucks. Especially when it's in the raaaaaain. But now I'm all settled and enjoying my much bigger residence. Still haven't unpacked my bedroom, but the kitchen, living room, and bathrooms (BATH AND A HALF, WHAT WHAT) are all set up. Plus I have cable and internet. It was a little dicey for a couple days. No serious withdrawal symptoms, but it still wasn't pleasant.

The cats adjusted to the move fairly quickly. First, I traumatized them by removing all the furniture from my old places leaving then with nothing but doors to take cover behind. Then I shoved them in the half bath while the house was being put together. But after yelling at me for a while and constantly walking up and down the hallway for an entire day they seem to have taken to the house. At least they haven't peed on anything yet.

2. Job hunting suuuuuuucks. Period. I have an interview Friday for a job I don't want at a place I used to work, but I think it'll be good practice. I haven't interviewed in years, so this will be a chance to shake the rust off and ~*~sparkle~*~ at an interview I actually care about.

3. I decided to drop Brighthouse and get AT&T Uverse, because everyone I know that has it is pleased PLUS I get free DVR and free HBO and Showtime for a few months. This works out perfectly since I plan on watching Game of Thrones (please to be fixing the rampant misogyny, HBO? *is eternally hopeful*) and I also wanted to check out The Borgias. I don't know anything about the Borgia familiy, so I'm taking in all kinds of altered history, but it's a lot of fun. And Lucrezia/Cesare! ...I'm going to hell!

4. Anime! After watching the Kimi ni Todoke movie it spurred me to watch the second season of the anime which was, of course, like all things Kimi ni Todoke, completely lovely. I'd read that far in the manga so I knew what was going to happen, but it was still very enjoyable. It's not as strong a story as the first season, but if you like KnT, it's not going to be for the plot, it's for the characters. And they are all wonderful, though it could have done with more Kurumi imho. Now I have several chapters of the manga to read! Excitement!

5. More anime! [livejournal.com profile] jennekohan suggested I check out Hanasaku Iroha, so I did, and I quite liked it. Our heroine is Ohana who, after her mom decides to run off with her boyfriend when he gives loan sharks their address, is sent to live with her estranged, onsen-running grandmother. Of course, her grandmother puts her to work immediately and her coworkers are less than enthused about her presence. But Ohana herself is hardworking and independent and when she stumbles she does her best to set things right. She's not all pure-hearted like so many anime/drama heroines. She's got a temper, holds grudges, and is fairly jaded beneath her smiling face, but I think she's great. I'm excited to see where the show goes and even if it just remains a simple coming of age story I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it. The animation is nice and fluid and I'm really enjoying the muted color palette they're using.

6. It's been a bit of a dry spell in the drama world for me. There were two shows I initially though I'd check out (Midas and 49 Days) but never did, and now I doubt I ever will. I just haven't seen enough response in the drama community to spur me to get started. It actually worked out well, because with the move I haven't had a lot of free time.

But, that's about to change. Today is the premiere of Manny and I'm not sure why but I'm actually pretty psyched about this show. It's not the actors, since the only one I know is Choi Jung Yoon from her as the sour-turned-fairly-cool older sister in Smile, You. I guess it's the (partial) role reversal. I'm hoping it will be an Oh! My Lady done right.

The next Hong Sisters drama is shaping up to be pretty awesome. Despite not having seen her in anything else, I've managed to not hold Hello, My Teacher against Gong Hyo Jin. I suppose it's only fair since I gave Gong Yoo a pass for that disaster as well. I'm excited to finally see Cha Seung Won in something since I STILL haven't managed to watch City Hall.

Then there is Lie to Me which I'll watch regardless if it's a complete train wreck or not. I'm just hoping that Kang Ji Hwan isn't a complete prick in it. I could barely stand his character in Coffee House.

I... honestly don't know what's airing in Japan. Anyone hear of something good? I think I remember wanting to check out the getsu9 drama but I don't remember what it was called. The plot wasn't anything that intriguing but the cast was pretty sweet: Katori Shingo, Kuroki Meisa, Fujiki Naohito, and Naka Risa. I should probably look it up if I want to tag this entry... Shiawase ni Narou yo. And it starts next week! I hope someone is subbing it!

So far this week has been the polar opposite of last.  Work is chill and I don't feel the need to murder people.  I would have to say things are looking up.  Though I just right back into it next week with travel and events and deadlines; so I'll just enjoy this calm right now.

ACen was fun, if very abbreviated.  24 hours is a far cry from the three days I'm used to.  I almost feel like I didn't have enough time to truly enjoy it.  I arrived and once I had unwound from the last 5 days it was time to go home again.  And it made me sad.  I did love getting to see everyone, I just wanted to see MORE of you.

One thing is for sure: I'm done with the Artist's Alley.  I just don't have the time or desire to put more energy into making things when they just aren't going to be received well by the patrons.  I thought I would give it a shot this year since the economy had calmed down a little, but it went about as well as last year.  There are just other vendors who are more creative and have better resources... and it's just not where my interest lie.

Having said that, I definitely want to get back into the cosplay game.  It's been about 2 years since I last cosplayed and I miss it.  The problem I have is that the (very small amount of) anime I watch isn't really cosplay material.  I pretty much stick to simple shoujo stories like Fruits Basket and Kimi ni Todoke... and there really isn't anything that interesting to choose from.  So, cosplay buddies, let me know your plans so I can play along.

Finished Oh My Lady! and it was very cute if unremarkable.  There were elements there for something but it just never stepped up its game.  The majority of the episodes just seemed to involve a lot of pivoting and not much plot.  Things picked up in the end, but it felt to me like the writer woke up from a nap and realized "Crap, we better finish this".  Because while I can see Min Woo falling for Gae Hwa, I wish we could have seen the same from her.  Granted, it's the ending I wanted, but it didn't feel earned.

Now I need to catch up on Personal Taste, which kind of bores me actually but I feel committed since I'm on ep 11.  It's never really clicked with me and I don't really like any of the characters so I don't know why I'm still watching.  There are some fun moments, but it really just kind of drags for me.  And Prosecutor Princess, which given the whispers on my flist gets really good?!  :D  I was loosing steam on that one too.  I think I'm on ep 7?

Sunao ni Narenakute continues to be very engaging.  I'm enjoying it and it's slightly ridiculous storylines very much.  It doesn't hurt that I love all the characters.  Though I think Peach and Linda are at the top of my list at the moment.  I like Haru, but they could spend a little less time on her since she really didn't have anything meaty until the rooftop confrontation.

The first episode of Tsuki no Koibito didn't disappoint.  Though it's going to be hard to root for Kimura since his character is a GIANT dick.  I kind of just want Maemi and Shu Mei to go off and be bffs and leave him in their dust.
rosdrise: (mad men - betty is PISSED)
My Nano month is off to a very disappointing start given that I haven't written ANYTHING. Not great. Work has been keeping me busy the last three days and when I get home all I want to do is lie down. So I do, because I'm super lazy.

I'm almost down with Return of Iljimae and while I still enjoy it for the most part I really hate what has happened to Wol Hee's character. What I thought was supposed to be a strong, independent young woman has turned out to be incapable of doing anything except moan about Iljimae abandoning her. Whatever.

Soo Ryun, the police woman, is way cooler. Plus, I think her actress is gorgeous. I remember her as Chae-Gyung's teacher in Goong and she was cool then. She is completely kickass in RoI. This is a woman who knows how to deal with her grief productively (...kind of XD). Speaking of which (spoilers for episodes 22 and 23): DAMN the body count exploded in these episodes!.

Also, V was pretty good (and kind of a Firefly reunion. I had no idea Alan Tudyk was going to be in it! That was an awesome suprise. Though it shows how little attention I pay to things). I'm excited to see what happens next week.

And now, a meme (as assigned by [livejournal.com profile] sodahands):

Leave me a comment saying "Resistance is Futile."
  • I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity

  • Update your journal with the answers to the questions

  • Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions

1. Favourite ice cream flavour? Breyers Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. Other brands of mint chocolate chip I can take or leave, but if it's Breyers you can count me in. The texture of the ice cream is better, the mint is fresher, and the chocolate chips are bigger. YUM. Damn, now I want some ice cream.
2. Favourite sports team? Indianapolis Colts. Besides NFL football, I really don't follow sports that much. My college was tiny, so sports wasn't a big deal there thus I don't have any collegiate affiliation to any team. I think baseball is dullsville and I just never got into basketball (or soccer for that matter). But I do enjoy football, especially if it means watching a game with family and friends.
3. Best use of chocolate? Umm... EVERY USE? Seriously, I love me some chocolate. Some excellent examples are my dad's chocolate chip cookies, Texas Sheet Cake, and Fannie May trinidads. NOW I WANT CHOCOLATE.
4. Favourite band from the '90s? This is hard for me, because I've never really paid very close attention to music. I just could never get as invested in it as other people seemed to. I never bought music when I was younger, I'd just listen to whatever was on the radio. To this day I still rarely buy music. But, I guess I'll go with Barenaked Ladies... though I haven't bought an album of theirs since "Maroon"
5. Favourite Asian movie? For all the dramas I watch, I really don't watch a lot of Asian movies besides Miyazaki films. I think it is a toss up between Princess Mononoke and Spirited away. Live action wise, I guess I'll go with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon since that's the only one I can really remember right now.
I've been waiting anxiously for this movie to get subbed and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rainscene I wasn't too late to the party. Why so anxious? It stars one my favorite drama actor: Kang Ji Hwan. And since he hasn't done any full dramas since Hong Gil Dong I've been going through withdrawal.

Too bad this movie was such a disappointment. Don't get me wrong. There were some fantastically funny bits. The air soft gun battle was one of the most hilarious things I've seen in quite some time. And KJH did some great physical comedy and jumped whole-heartedly into the role of the bumbling NIS agent. Kim Hanuel filled her role admirably, but there just wasn't a lot for her to do. All the truly entertaining bits went to KJH.

The actors were fine, the plot was the problem. It was so elementary (Russian spies! Biochemical warfare!) and slapdash. I don't think it knew what it wanted to be. I enjoyed it just fine, but I was expecting more. Either more drama or more comedy. Just MORE.

My boss bought lunch for the department! SWEET!
Work has been kicking my ASS recently. The thing that annoys me about my job is that everything I do is so completely random. It's millions of little things, but I don't have one big thing that I can call my own. I help everyone with their big things. I would love to be able to have one impressive thing I could call my own. As it is, it's hard to pin down what exactly it is I DO because I don't have that. Ah, well.

The turkey on my sandwich tastes a little funny. GREAT.

LEVERAGE FANS, fill me in, because I'm not in the know: Gina Bellman is coming back, right? I know she is preggers IRL, but I'll have a super sad face if Sophie never returns. Also, it sucks having to wait until January for new episodes. Though I suppose that IS better than waiting a year.

In drama news, I kind of hate waiting currently airing shows because that means I have to wait for subs. I mainly do it so I can participate in the discussions. I don't mind when it comes to shows like Buzzer Beat because the subs get released at a steady rate. But I'm thisclose to taking Karei naru Spy off of my "Currently Watching" list because it's nearly done airing and only ONE episode has been subbed.

I also started My Fair Lady (or Taking Care of the Lady, formerly known as Lady Castle, which I think was actually the best name out of the three despite how engrishtastic it was) and I can't decide it I like it or not. I was actually pleasantly surprised after watching the first three episodes that Hae-na was not as shrill as I was expecting her to be. She's just kind of a bitch, which I can deal with. I think YEH is doing a good job of hinting at the mushy center that is covered by that hard candy shell.

No, she doesn't really have a reason to be spoiled beyond just being a plain brat, but I do think it is a defense mechanism that has simply been allowed to go to far. I'd be fine with her character for the most part (mainly she just doesn't want anyone to ever get close enough that they could possibly hurt her, so she's awful to EVERYONE), the issue I have is with her not wanting to 'work.' That's kind of hard to get past. Just put effort towards SOMETHING beyond just being horrible. I'm assuming she'll learn to be so during the course of the drama.

The show itself is pretty over the top. I almost feel like I'm watching a play with all the exaggerated gestures, but I don't really mind it. It can be pretty funny, and the little boy is probably my favorite part. I do wish that Yoon Sang Hyun would shave off that horrendous mustache. He just looks SO SKEEVY with it that I'm finding it hard to even look at him. He's doing a nice job as Dong Chan, since most of the comedy falls on his shoulders, but seriously, THE RAZOR IS YOUR FRIEND.

Also, seeing Jung Il Woo is REALLY making me want to watch Return of Iljimae which I've only heard awesome things about, but I need to finish Painter of the Wind first!

Anyway, My Fair Lady is kind of stumbling along. It's far from spectacular, but it is keeping me interested and I'm not quite sure why. Although it could very well be the fact that Dong Chan so earnestly played Lionel Ritchie's "Hello" on the piano in order to seduce Hae-na (who was like, that's nice - NOW PLAY THIS GIRL'S GENERATION SONG). You know, the one with the music video of the blind girl making the clay bust of him? OMG I LAUGHED SO HARD. He was taking it so seriously, I nearly died.
I came in this morning with every intention of moving all my stuff back to the office. I think that will have to wait.

Photobucket

Why, yes. That IS a giant hole outside of my door.

Triple finale: here be spoilers )
[Error: unknown template qotd]

It's obviously an evil koala.

Here is the current state of our office:

That orange fan is currently drying my office, lucky me. Apparently some kind of roof drainage tile broke DIRECTLY UNDER US. So the only direction the water had to go was up. There may be a huge hole in the ground come Monday morning. I know I am excited.

So, my office flooded... AGAIN.

Photobucket

Note: this was taken before it got really bad.  Use that as your frame of reference.  It was too chaotic to get a picture after this point.

This happened last year around April when we got a big rain. It rained all morning, but we didn't think much of it. Then a coworker spotted a tiny little damp spot on the carpet. Then we saw the newly sprung RIVER flowing out of another corner. My side of our department is apparently downhill because it all started towards me. Pretty much the entire marketing department showed up to start moving boxes out of the various storage rooms.

Maintenance is trying to dry it out with some giant machine. It's my opinion that after having been flooded twice we might deserve some new carpet squares. AND A NEW FOUNDATION.

I like how this only happens in our department, in a recently renovated part of the building. I'm told it smells lovely. Sometimes not having a sense of smell is a blessing.

I'm currently in a spare storage room/department because half of my office is underwater. I'm connected to the network via the VPN which apparently doesn't have the webfilter on it so HUZZAH!

I'll further sooth myself by looking at Kimura's face:

AHHH. Nice. I hope to have a Million Stars Falling From the Sky picspam of episodes 2&3 put together shortly.

ETA:  Looks like there is another HUGE cell headed towards us.  Awesome.
It's been dead quiet at work this week, and then out of nowhere two events drop into my lap that I have to cover. Thanks for the heads up guys! Too bad I can't be in two places at once. OH, WORK.

I mowed my lawn yesterday - the second time since I moved in - and bent the blade. I'm such a freaking genius. I took the time to walk the entire yard and pick up the sticks that they two big ass tress drop and then run over a root anyway. To be fair, I was very careful around the roots I saw. This one sprung up on me out of nowhere. It is beheaded now, so it deserves it.

The mower started working really hard, but it finished the job. At least it doesn't look like a crazy person lives there that only manages to mow the back half of her lot. I went ahead and mowed in front of the other half of the house. When my housemate mowed two weeks ago she only did in front of her half, which I thought was pretty bogus. And it looked really stupid.

So, now I have to take the blade off and bring it in to the hardware store to see if they can match it. I'm just glad I didn't lose an eye or something. Mowers make me a little squeamish if I think about them too much.

The latest Ashes to Ashes (ep 6) was a little disappointing for me. I can't really put my finger on it, but it just wasn't as engaging as the last 5 have been. I did enjoy Alex's interactions with the family (trying to stay away from spoilers here for those that haven't seen it).

Jotei continues to bring the trashy hilarity. Ayaka was shot defending a yakuza boss and is now blackmailing a politician with incriminating photos. Meanwhile more women hate her with each passing episode. Quality television I tell you. QUALITY.

Random links!

Missing Link Fossil Found! <-- This is cool. Thanks go to Google for informing me of it's existence. At one point I had wanted to be an archeologist/paleontologist/fossil-finder person. Then I had an anatomy class and had to memorize the different parts of all the bones. ... I ended up in internet marketing. So, I guess I took another direction.

Scrubs to return next season - WTF? Bad idea. I wasn't looking forward to this recent season, but the switch over to ABC seemed to have revived the series (more for the first half of the season than the second). The finale was great. Let the show die, it's just not that good anymore.

My Lovely Horse - With the random mentions of the Eurovision song contest around lj I am always reminded of Father Ted when they tried to write a song for the Eurosong contest. Here is a video of the brainstorming session when they are trying to write the song. And here is the BEST MUSIC VIDEO EVER.

Also? I want to see the new Star Trek movie. Maybe this weekend?

ETA: I'm kind of ridiculously excited for MR. BRAIN (my excitment could be based on the title alone) to premiere on Saturday. I've yet to see a KimuTaku drama (Pride is on my list of doom) so I figured I should start now. Plus, it has Mizushima Hiro and Ayase Haruka, both of whom I've come to adore. Normally I'd be turned off my the procedural aspect of it, but I'm promised comedy, so I'm hopeful. They are also starting to stack up some awesome guest stars (Kame! Koyuki! etc...)

ETA BECAUSE IT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANYTHING ELSE IN THIS POST: NAGASE HAS A DRAMA THIS SUMMER?!!!! [livejournal.com profile] uwasako describes it as a comedy spy drama, with Nagase as a master of disguise. So, it's Kurosagi only A MILLION TIMES BETTER?!!! ADS)(ASD)QE*UU:ROI!!!!

OH NEWS

Apr. 9th, 2009 11:15 am
I know I'm completely late on this, but NEWS' new pv for Koi no ABO may be one of the most awkward things I've ever seen. There is a reason the JE backup dancers are usually little boys and not those of the female variety. The only thing that salvages it is the silly disco dance and costume/hairstyles in the second half. I don't think JE really knows what to do with NEWS. I get the feeling that as long as they have Yamapi not much effort is going to get put into that group since they don't really need it.

The song is blah but the only NEWS singles I've actually really liked were weeeek and Summertime, so no real surprise there. I had higher expectations when I heard it was disco-esque because I love me some disco. At least Pi ditched the perm, though I don't like this new hair thing much either. But then, Shige and Massu are suffering from ill-advised hair moves as well. OH NEWS - Why don't you have a personality?

I've been staring at excel spreadsheets all week so I am SUPER excited for my three day weekend. I'm heading up to the Chicagoland area to pick up a FREE armoire for myself. I have yet to see it in person but I am super excited about it. It's big and solid wood and FREE. I know it needs to be stripped and restained because it is currently a kind of baby poop brown and that won't do. But it will look so much better than my current tv console situation.

Easter egg dying is also in my future which is fun. Plus it means deviled eggs, WHICH ARE DELICIOUS.

Besides that I need to pack up some crafting stuff to do over the weekend. I'm experiencing a major time crunch due to my laziness. I've used up all my resin, so the casting portion is done. Now I need to paint Yoko skulls and wingalings and glue barrettes. TICK TOCK.

ETA: And Ashes to Ashes is back on the 20th!

*sniffles*
